SIYABONGA TSHABALALA TARGETS PODIUM FINISH AT 2024 NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE RACING SERIES

Representing Gauteng, Tshabalala participated in the open round series at Kyalami Raceway last month, claiming a respectable fifth-place finish, having prior to that finished fourth at Red Star Raceway in Mpumalanga.

He told SABC Sport, even though it has been challenging to prepare for the championship due to a lack of funds, he refuses to give up on becoming the 2024 Open Superbike premier champion at Aldo Scribante Race Track come 24 May.

"It has been tough preparing for the upcoming race due to limited funds. The sport demands new tires and enough fuel, and coming from a disadvantaged background is always difficult to have proper training sessions," said Tshabalala.

"But these hurdles will not stop me from achieving my goal in Gqeberha. I am still aiming for a podium finish."

With over five years of motorcycle racing experience, Tshabalala further expressed his goal to explore the international market and represent South Africa.

He already received an invitation to participate at the SIV Junior Championship in Italy, which came from the ETG Racing team.

"I am confident my entry to the Italian junior class will enable me to get closer to my dream of competing in MotoGP, which is the pick of motorcycle racing – almost close to Formula 1," added Tshabalala.

The Kagiso-born speedster recently launched his own racing academy, the SIYA Tshabalala Racing Academy, and says the aim is to expose the sport to underprivileged youngsters from his community of Kagiso and surrounding areas.

"I registered the racing academy with the goal of trying to help young people from townships who have an interest in learning about motorsport.

"Particularly those from Kagiso and surrounding areas, and those who don’t have funds but aspire to be future champions," he concluded.
